
Dr Vinod Achan is a Consultant Cardiologist and Lead Consultant for Primary Angioplasty at Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust serving patients from Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire. He also works at Spire Clare Park Hospital, Surrey.
Dr Vinod Achan was educated at Mill Hill School, London, and Brasenose College, University of Oxford. He was awarded the top First Class degree in Physiological Sciences at Oxford University and graduated from Oxford University Medical School in 1993. After his basic SHO training in London, Dr Achan was appointed to the South West London Cardiology training programme in 1996. He was a Fulbright Scholar at the Stanford University School of Medicine, California (1999-2002), was awarded a PhD from the University of London in 2004, and was the Senior Interventional Cardiology Fellow at St George’s Hospital and Medical School (2005-07).
He was appointed a consultant at Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in 2007. In October 2007, he implanted the first permanent pacemaker at Frimley Park. The following month, he was one of two operators performing the first coronary angioplasty at Frimley Park. Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust now performs almost 1000 coronary angioplasties a year, is a regional heart attack centre, and was voted the Best Trust in the South of England 2013 by Dr Foster. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2011.
Dr Achan has spoken at national and international conferences, written a physiology textbook, and published articles related to cardiovascular disease in a number of international journals.
